“The More I Shoot, the More My Photos Resemble Me”

 
 

Before pressing the shutter,
I often recalled what emotion had passed through me,
and what thoughts had lingered.
 
Why I chose that composition or exposure,
whether to shoot in color or leave it in black and white—
I realized that behind every frame
were countless decisions and reasons.
 
Taking a photograph, I’ve come to learn,
reveals far more of myself than I ever expected.

Warm afternoon sunlight.
Beneath it, a small fire hydrant.

Neatly arranged, yet each one different.
They seemed ready to meet their new owner.

A world divided by light and shadow.
Time that stayed, time flowing.
A heart left alone, steps walking together.
Different rhythms try to overlap.

Just sitting there
felt like a photograph in itself.
Light, a table, and stillness.
It was a scene on its own.

 
A moment where reflection quietly begins.

A short film played on the wall.
The shadows ran in a hurry.
They looked happy. Off work, maybe?

The vine and the bird.
One moved slowly, the other all at once.
Different in speed, different in way.
But both reaching the same direction.
That thought came to me.

Just before heading somewhere,
where are you going?
Who are you going to meet?
What kind of day have you planned?

The path was quietly beautiful.
Climbing the stairs up the hill,
I thought—
maybe clear skies and a stunning view
are waiting at the top.

I paused while walking up the stairs.
The way the light touched the wall caught my eye.
For a moment, the word joy came to mind.

Lines formed between bricks.
Between them,
my eyes were drawn to the red legs of the bench.

 
 
 

After taking a photo,
I tried to write down—
even briefly—
the emotions I felt,
the thoughts that lingered in my mind.
 
I looked back on those words,
alongside the images,
and picked up the camera again.
 
In that quiet repetition,
I began to change little by little.
And the photographs,
in their own way,
began to resemble me.
